Many people asked me for proofs on Jquery’s ability to be SEO friendly. And so I write this post to give some few cents from my pocket on making jQuery crawlable by search spiders.

JQuery, an open source JavaScript lib well known for cross browser compatibility and considered as one of the greatest achievement in JavaScript history (as far as web development goes). Widely used for advanced website development since it allows any website to be scalable on all sorts of platform such as laptop, desktops and even in mobile browsers.

Considering what jQuery has done in the past 4 years, Since it was released 2006. It still faces some adversity on search engine compatibility. Just like in Flash, JQuery scripts is hard to discover for search engine crawlers otherwise known as spiders or bot. These are integral part of search engines that crawls websites and help search engines determine the ranking of websites on search engine queries.

Web developers needs to study search algorithm behaviors to discover search crawlers ability on indexing websites while improving jQuery coding at the same time.

Content is king in SEO. Without the content getting indexed by crawlers your website will be just another crap. One good technique is utilizing HTML and JQuery at the same time (without using any call functions from JavaScript). Place links on HTML codes and impose alt tags on the ahref functions. (Explained well on John Raasch blog)

Like what we said, JQuery is an open source, therefore we expect that the community of JQuery has something to offer in terms of websites being searchable by search engine crawlers. Here’s what we got from jQuery community:

SEO Friendly URL – Gives you the ability to produce pretty permalinks in websites and cms.
